My Teaching Philosophy
I believe every student has the potential to become a confident, expressive, and independent musician. My teaching approach combines strong musical fundamentals while always encouraging curiosity, creativity, and a love of music.
Because every student has unique goals and learning styles, I tailor lessons to their individual needs. Whether a student is learning their first notes, preparing for an audition, or pursuing music at an advanced level, I provide a supportive and structured environment that encourages growth.
Lessons focus on tone, technique, musical expression, repertoire, and effective practice strategies while developing valuable life skills such as discipline, perseverance, problem-solving, time management, and self-confidence. I encourage students to take ownership of their learning and build the independence to make meaningful progress both inside and outside the practice room.
My goal is not only to help students become musicians, but also to foster thoughtful, resilient, and lifelong learners.
Lesson Formats
Choose the lesson length that best fits your age, experience level, goals, and schedule. Shorter lessons are ideal for younger beginners or students looking for focused instruction, while longer lessons provide more time to explore technique, repertoire, musical expression, and individualized goals in greater depth. Who do you teach?
I teach clarinet and saxophone students of all ages and experience levels, and tailor each lesson to the student’s individual goals and experience.
Do online lessons even work?
Absolutely! Online lessons can be just as effective as in-person lessons and offer the same personalized instruction, feedback, and support. To ensure success, students will need a reliable internet connection, a computer, and a quiet space where they can play comfortably.
What will we work on?
Each lesson is designed to balance building strong fundamentals with exploring the music that matters most to you.
For most students, lessons are divided into two parts:
50% Foundations
We’ll work on the technical skills that support confident, expressive playing.
50% Your Goals
We’ll apply those skills to the music you’re excited about, whether that’s band music, a solo, an audition excerpt, a favorite piece or song, or another musical goal you’d like to explore.
This balance helps students build the skills they need while keeping lessons engaging, creative, and connected to their individual interests.
What materials do I need for lessons?
Students should have an instrument in good working condition, appropriate reeds, a music stand, a pencil (or apple pencil), and any assigned music or lesson materials.
Don't have an instrument yet? Complete beginners are welcome! I'm happy to provide guidance on selecting an instrument, mouthpiece, and reeds before lessons begin.
What are your studio policies?
Studio policies are designed to create a consistent and supportive learning environment for all students. Policies regarding scheduling, cancellations, rescheduling, payment, lesson packages, late arrivals, and refunds are provided and reviewed upon enrollment. You can also view them at the link below.
